Purpose and Scope
Under minimal supervision, the Engineering Technician III is responsible for providing maintenance, troubleshooting, and operational support for facility, utility, process, and HVAC/R within a manufacturing environment and Aseptic areas. All work is to be completed to assure minimal impact to production while complying with cGMP and Company Policies.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Provide engineering and maintenance support for Aseptic Equipment and Processes to include the construction, modification and improvement of equipment/systems, with assistance from Engineering Tech I and II staff.
- Assist Engineering Tech I and II staff in equipment operation, set-ups and repairs.
- Assist in training maintenance and production employees on the use, maintenance and cleaning of equipment.
- Assist with maintaining content of training records for department, in compliance with cGMP standards.
- Develop and maintain preventative maintenance programs for equipment and systems.
- Establish and maintain records that demonstrate conformity with FDA, GMP, and SOP standards.
- Confer with management, quality and production managers to identify and resolve equipment issues.
- Provide support for Engineering Projects involving but not limited to HVAC/R, Aseptic Equipment and Operations.
- Maintain process equipment and machinery, and perform scheduled maintenance as required.
- Identify and help implement measures/processes to improve operating conditions of equipment.
- Assist the Engineering Department in equipment, process/production layout and design as necessary.
- Perform and/or supervise installation of machines and equipment.
- Perform and/or supervise repairs and preventative maintenance activities on machines and equipment.
- Assist the team with maintaining an up-to-date, functional spare parts inventory system for the equipment/ systems which are assigned.
- Perform electrical troubleshooting and component replacement as needed.
- Plan and schedule own work activities and coordinate work done by contractors with operations staff to minimize impact to production activities.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Ability to perform electrical troubleshooting and identify root-cause, perform mechanical repairs, maintenance and set up of production equipment as required.
- Ability to troubleshoot, diagnose and repair technical and facility support systems; including HVAC/R and Lyophilizer / Freeze Dryer Equipment.
- High mechanical aptitude; ability to analyze the mechanics of equipment to achieve most efficient and reliable operation.
- Ability to troubleshoot mechanical/electrical devices and repair them to good operating condition.
- Computer skills to include Word, Excel and basic PLC understanding.
- Ability to work well in teams.
- Strong organizational skills required.
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize multiple job functions.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to stand for long periods of time, and to squat, kneel, and bend frequently.
- Acceptable driving record.
Education & Experience
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Experience in commercial/ industrial HVAC/R required.
- At least six years in a trade (Electrical, HVAC/R, Plumbing, etc.) position preferably in a production environment.
- Knowledge of clean room and aseptic areas.
- Journeyman trade license preferred.
- Completion of accredited training in electrical and plumbing preferred.
- Universal CFC Certification preferred.
- Experience with Lyophilizer / Freeze Dryer Equipment, Autoclave, Clean Utility Systems and Aseptic Production preferred.
Working Conditions
- Manufacturing and warehouse environment.
- Willing to work overtime and weekends as required, including being "on-call" as needed.
